South Dakota

9/28: A new ARG poll shows Sen. McCain ahead by 16. South Dakota is not likely to be competitive and remains safely on McCain's side.
9/13: The first poll in 2 months in South Dakota show Sen. McCain with a 17 point lead. It appears that his bounce in the upper midwest continues. South Dakota is moved from leaning to safely McCain.
7/14: Hold the phone. As we have seen recently in polls in Montana and North Dakota, based on the latest Rasmussen poll, Sen. McCain holds only a 4 point lead. It would appear that the Dakota Wesleyan poll from March & April is an outlier and South Dakota is considerably more competitive than originally anticipated. As a result of this poll, South dakota is moved from Safe McCain to Leaning McCain.
6/21: South Dakota looks to be a safe McCain state.
