West Virginia

9/28: 2 new polls were released in West Virginia confirming the Mark Blankenship poll of 2 weeks ago. As a result, Sen. McCain's lead is cut to under 9 points and West Virginia is moved from safely to leaning McCain.

9/11: Mark Blankenship Enterprises released a new poll today in West Virginia showing Sen. McCain ahead by only 5. This poll is closer than I would have expected. I would not be surprised to see more polling here in the next week or so to see whether or not this result is an outlier. For now, while I await confirmation of this poll, West Virginia remains safely McCain's although this is largely based on a poll that is now nearly 7 months old.

6/20: West Virginia had been a Republican leaning battleground in recent elections, but appear to be breaking for Republicans this time around. West Virginia is the kind of state that Obama has struggled in even in the primaries and is unlikely to carry it in the general election.
